STRENGTH, CONDITIONING, AND CROSS-TRAINING FOR YOUTH ATHLETES —AND ADULTS

GROUP CLASSES AND ONE-ON-ONE TRAINING

WE ARE S4S — AND WE GET IT.

BACK IN THE DAY, KIDS PLAYED A VARIETY OF SPORTS AND USED A VARIETY OF MUSCLES AND MOVEMENTS. NOW, MANY YOUTH ATHLETES BEGIN SPECIALIZING AT A YOUNG AGE.

This can be a worthwhile path for your athlete. But it can also be a treacherous one — leading to overuse injuries that end athletic careers.

Strong for the Sport (S4S) offers specialized training for young athletes aged 11 to 16. We create age-appropriate strength, conditioning, and cross training programs that get kids stronger for their specific sports while focusing on underused muscles and movements.

All of this sets your child up for a long and healthy life in athletics.

“Some people believe that preadolescents are too young to perform muscular training and that doing so will damage their bones. Evidence has dispelled that myth, showing that children can significantly increase their muscular strength and physical abilities through properly designed programs of progressive muscle exercise (Faigenbaum et al, 2009).”

IT’S NOT ABOUT HITTING A ONE-REP MAX AT THE SQUAT RACK.

S4S uses sport-specific, age-determined, appropriately scaled free-weight training, plyometrics, isometrics, speed and agility drills, and a variety of other techniques to build bone density, improve flexibility, increase strength, and protect against injury.

Our small-group classes utilize a metabolic conditioning format—focusing on periods of work and recovery—with drills, movements, and fun challenges tailored to the group’s particular sport.

WE ARE S4S — AND THIS IS HOW WE DO IT.

COACH CHRISTY HAS ALWAYS BEEN AN ATHLETE.

As a kid, she played soccer, tennis, field hockey, and lacrosse. And when she went to college, she continued her field hockey career, starting as sweeper by her junior year and serving as co-captain during her senior year on the team at the University of Rochester in New York.

She has gone on to play field hockey and lacrosse on competitive adult teams in Atlanta—and recently took up full-contact, women’s rugby—while teaching spin and strength classes. She also loves a good endurance event, obstacle run, sprint triathlon, and half-marathon.

Christy has always understood the value of variety and credits this approach with keeping herself largely injury-free.

Now, though, she has two sons who play soccer, and that’s all they want to play. She has struggled with how to support their desired paths while being mindful of overuse injuries and potential burnout.

All of this drove Coach Christy to create Strong for the Sport — for her boys, and for your youth athlete.

When not training kids, Christy is working with adults of all fitness levels—including individual golfers, tennis players, and pickleball players at Druid Hills Golf Club—and with teams, such as the High Country Women’s Rugby Football Club. Learn more about her training for adults here.
